Scenes from me and other wonderful poets reading at Poetry Rendezvous 2019.  The event was held in Black Mountain, NC.  The first day was at White Horse.

The story of “Intent”:  Vinton Ferguson pulls into the Richmond, Virginia area rest stop in his faithful royal blue Ford pickup truck. He hadn’t been late to work in over 40 years. He finds an abandoned car in the parking lot only to be shocked at what he finds inside. Julia Wells and her sidekick assistant Roger gets the case of the accused, Meghan Wright.

Two sisters, Anna and Meghan, were on their way with their parents to the former Heritage USA, but they never make it. Somewhere in Virginia, they pulled off the side of the road after a lengthy argument. Meghan gets out of the car and the Wright’s drive off leaving her there on the highway. When they finally turn around to go back for her, she is gone. The next day the Wright’s are found much like what Vinton found in the station wagon at the rest stop where he works.

Lawyer against Lawyer, a faithful employee, two sisters, a pastor and his wife, a troubled marriage, and a deep religious faith … or not. Is Meghan guilty? Did she have intent?

Now available:  new poems in the Things to Do with you Dog series – “Government Shutdown!”  This poetry book is a sequel of sorts to “Things to do on Vacation in Washington DC with your Dog.” We visited Washington, DC in early February right after a government shutdown had temporarily ended. It’s only been lifted for a few days. The shutdown went on for about a month, the longest in US history. Technically, the government wasn’t shutdown when we arrived, but because it was a weekend a lot of things were shutdown anyway. This is sort of an insider’s guide to what do in DC if you want to do something a little different or if you do indeed visit during a shutdown.

Things to Do on Vacation during a Government Shutdown

Charleston Silver was just an ordinary boy, an ice runner on Lake James in North Carolina, or what was left. He’d never known what life without ice looked like, none of them did, they’d heard of it but none of them were really sure it ever existed at least not in this corner of western of North Carolina. He stuck to the ice and running. Lake James, when it wasn’t frozen, in places went as deep as 125 feet. Everything was solid ice even the trees were solid blocks of tall frozen ice.

None of them, none of this part of North Carolina knew the sun.
