Local award-winning author LB Sedlacek is returning readers to one of North Carolina’s most beloved landmarks with the release of her latest novel, “The Spirit of the Mailbox.” The new book serves as a sequel of sorts to Sedlacek’s acclaimed novel, “The Mailbox of the Kindred Spirit,” which was inspired by the iconic Kindred Spirit Mailbox at Sunset Beach and also set at the Lenoir Golf Club (called Rionel in the book).
“The Spirit of the Mailbox” follows the grandson of the original novel’s central character as he embarks on a journey that reveals family history, unexpected connections, and the enduring legacy of the Mailbox. While longtime readers will recognize the spirit and heart of the original story, the new novel also stands on its own, welcoming newcomers to experience the magic of the mailbox for the first time.
“Aah! A satisfying find that was quick and drenched with all things beach, from gritty sand in the towels to the trinket-filled stores lining the sidewalks, and plenty between. This book offered an answer to the irritating question, “Is it too late to find love?” It happened to the main character’s grandpa, but would it happen to him, there, in the same sun-filled setting? Throw in an almost magical mailbox on the dunes, and you’ve got a great story to read. Enjoy, like I did!”
